ADAC beats its waste recycling target for the first half of 2011
(3 August 2011)
ADAC demonstrate industry leadership in environmentally-conscious waste management in the region.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) announced today that it has exceeded its set target for waste recycling during the first half of 2011, successfully recycling 21.36% of its waste.

The announcement follows the launch of the company’s policy and strategy set in 2010, which aims to increase the rate of recycled waste diversion at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Last January, ADAC announced its waste recycling results for 2010, which exceeded the pre-set targets of 15%, achieving an 18% diversion rate.

ADAC successfully recycled 21.36% of its waste by the month of June, setting the stage for a further enhanced performance beating the set target once again in 2011. This milestone is a result of the company’s continued focus on environmental waste management strategy accompanied by various recycling awareness campaigns that have helped to inspire and motivate all the members of the airport community to play their important roles in raising and driving waste management performance.

In this regard, James E. Bennett, ADAC Chief Executive Officer, stated: “

“Achieving this important milestone was only possible through the dedication of all ADAC employees and stakeholders who have continuously contributed to the success of the waste management strategy, and it truly reflects our continued commitment to driving environmental performance. I am confident that ADAC’s corporate responsibility strategies will continue to achieve further success in managing our environmental impacts and promoting sustainability in the region’s aviation industry.”

Recycled waste for the ADAC group includes timber, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and paper. The different materials have either been reused within the company or transferred to other organizations such as Masdar, which recycles ADAC’s wood waste for reuse in landscaping.

As a member of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG), and an elected member to its General Secretariat, ADAC works in conjunction with the Environment Agency, Masdar, Etihad Airways and ADSG to continuously improve its sustainability performance as well as developing and shaping the sustainability initiatives for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
